Lactation Consultations with Hannah

As an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Hannah is dedicated to supporting mamas on their breastfeeding journey.

Her mission is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care to help you achieve your breastfeeding goals and ensure the best start for you and your baby.

What is a Lactation Consultant?

A lactation consultant is a trained professional who specialises in breastfeeding support and education. International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) undergo rigorous training and certification to provide comprehensive care to mothers and babies experiencing breastfeeding challenges. We offer personalised assistance and guidance to address a wide range of concerns and promote successful breastfeeding experiences.

An IBCLC is the most qualified person to support you with your breastfeeding journey. Unfortunately anyone can call themselves a 'lactation consultant' without any training or experience, but as an IBCLC Hannah has your back!

How we can help...

At Held Midwifery we offer both in home and tele-health lactation consultations to support you to achieve your feeding goals. Some of the common ways we support our clients include...

Antenatal education - Set yourself up for success! We provide women + their partners with valuable information and resources to prepare for breastfeeding before their baby arrives. Our antenatal lactation consultations cover topics such as the basics of breastfeeding, attachment techniques, and strategies for establishing a successful breastfeeding relationship.

Attachment and Positioning Advice - Achieving a comfortable and effective latch is essential for successful breastfeeding. We offer practical support to help mothers and babies find the most comfortable and efficient breastfeeding positions. We also provide guidance on proper attachment techniques to prevent nipple pain/damage and ensure adequate milk transfer.

Troubleshooting Challenges - It's not uncommon to encounter challenges on your journey, such as painful nipples, low milk supply, mastitis and poor weight gain. As a lactation consultant, Hannah is trained to identify and address these issues quickly. She offers practical solutions and support to overcome breastfeeding hurdles and prevent further issues developing.

Individual Assessment and Plans - We are not a one size fits all practice! Every mother and baby are unique, and we tailor our care plans to meet individual needs. Hannah will conduct a comprehensive assessment to identify underlying issues affecting breastfeeding and develop personalised care plans to address them effectively. Her goal is to empower you with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate breastfeeding challenges confidently.

Medicare rebates are available on lactation consultations with Hannah if you are currently pregnant or within 6 weeks and 6 days postpartum. Unfortunately Medicare do not provide rebates on lactation consultations beyond the first 7 weeks postpartum.

Can I share a little secret with you?

We actually see the best breastfeeding success outcomes with our Postnatal Package clients.

We believe this is because they receive consistent + timely support through their breastfeeding journey - from 36 weeks of pregnancy right through to six weeks postpartum.

One of the biggest hurdles parents face on their breastfeeding journey is being given incorrect advice from a health professional or family member. Often this advice is well meaning, but it can sometimes completely derail someones breastfeeding journey! Paediatricians and GPs receive very little breastfeeding training and unfortunately aren't the experts on breastfeeding. Family often base their advice solely on their own experiences which isn't always helpful.

Lactation Consultations are great when you need urgent support to get feeding back on track, or if you're past those crucial first six weeks, but we know that many common feeding issues can be prevented in the first place! And that's where our postnatal midwifery support shines.

We would love to support you with up to date, practical feeding support right from the beginning of your breastfeeding journey!
